Swannanoa Greenway Study Moves Forward

The $100,000 Great Trails State Grant awarded to Friends and Neighbors of Swannanoa (FANS) has now been officially signed—marking a major step forward for the Swannanoa Greenway.

With funding secured, FANS is partnering with Equinox Environmental to begin work on an updated feasibility study for a 6.9-mile corridor from Grovestone Road to Warren Wilson College. This segment is a key piece of the future Fonta Flora State Trail.

The updated study will incorporate flood resilience and stormwater strategies, helping create a safer, more connected greenway. Work is set to begin in April and will take approximately one year—laying the groundwork for future design and construction funding.
