Fonta Flora study in Black Mountain

Do you ever think to yourself: “Wouldn’t it be great to follow Fonta Flora blazes along a safe, protected trail from the eastern side of Black Mountain all the way to the Point Lookout Trail? 

So do we! A girl can dream, right?

The expert engineers at Kittelson & Associates have taken the first steps to make that a reality. They’ve spent the last several months planning out just such a route, as seen in their recently released feasibility study.

To create the route, they’ve worked with experts from the French Broad Metropolitan Planning Organization, Buncombe County, the NC Department of Transportation, Friends of Fonta Flora (natch), and of course local hikers. Maybe you got a chance to share your ideas at one of their public sessions? 

This feasibility study is a key first step, but alas, there’s lots more to do before shovels go in the ground.
